December 3 – The Word
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. He was in the
beginning with God. Through him all
things were made and without him was not anything made that was made.” John 1: 1-2
The Word: There is
the written word – the Bible; the spoken word – truth proclaimed with our lips;
and the Living Word – Jesus.
In the US we often lament that December is such a busy time
– shopping, parties, food preparation, special services, etc, etc. Here in Zambia, life is lived at a slower
pace. We hardly ever have evening
meetings or events. There is no school
in December. Gifts aren’t really part of
the experience of most Zambians, so you don’t have to worry about
shopping. Often times I wish that kind
of life for my family and friends in the US.
If we want to maintain the true reason for the season
(Jesus), it seems to me that we need to all spend time with the written word,
so that the Living Word can be spoken into our hearts.
Dear Jesus, We want you living in our hearts. I pray for those who are so filled with
busyness in life that there is no time for your written word to be read, or
your Living Word to grow in their hearts. Help us to spend time in your written Word
this Advent season. Amen, Come, Lord
Jesus.
