Will there be water?

I'm headed out the door on this Monday to go to school. I'm not quite sure what the water situation will be. We have 2 well pumps down because Zesco, the electric company, often has power surges that burn up motors. Our water at school comes from both an electric pump and the play pump.

We need water for drinking, washing hands, cooking lunch for 145 people, washing all the dishes for that many and flushing toilets. Fortunately we still have our backup pit latrines, but with 135 students it can mean long lines!

Hopefully, our kids will have the energy and willingness to go around and around on the play pump to get at least the minimum water that we need.

We are asking that if you are able to help us with the cost of 2 new pumps and better surge protection, please go to our website: www.akcli.org to help. Thanks so much and I'll give a report on how the day goes.

Physicals

Kansas Nurses Doing Physicals

It is a great joy to have some of my family from Kansas here. My cousin Marilyn and her husband David, her brother my cousin Tim, and his daughter Charity. Marilyn and Charity are both nurses. They are doing physicals for all the children at the school, teachers, mothers and aunties. For the school children they have done weight, height, blood pressure, scoliosis screening, and eye exam. For the children in the Village there is a bit more examination. Then on Monday or Tuesday after school they have brought tooth brushes and toothpaste for each of the children.

My cousin Tim is a mechanic and he has fixed one of the cars, saving us so much money. Now Benedict can take it out on the main road and it will be available to pick up teams who are coming over the next couple of months.

It is wonderful to see how God uses the gifts and talents that we have. It is always our prayer that those who come see how God can use them in this work that He is doing.

School starts Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the start of our Term 2 at the Village of Hope. We had 3 great planning and professional development days last week. We are expecting 10 new students to bring our enrollment to over 135. I also expect a few parents who are hoping we have more openings. I'm thankful for our great staff, pictured here. Front row: Teacher Chanda (grade 3), Teacher Chido (grade 1), Jesse Mumba (an intern), Teacher Malowa (co-teaching grades 4-8). Back Row: Teacher Musonda (co-teaching grades 4-8), Auntie Kathleen (Director), Teacher Oliness (grade 2), Isha Schwartz (helper), Teacher Zandile (assistant grade 4). Keep us in your prayers.
